Loaded up and ready to roll
This weekend we decided to escape the hot, humid desert air and head for greener (and cooler) pastures. We loaded up and headed out of Phoenix a few miles North of Pine, AZ. On our way up we were greeted by thunder, lightning and downpours.

After finding a good camp and setting up the kitchen and EZ-UP the rain started to fall. Luckily for us, it didn’t stick around long and just created some mud for us to go play in.
This was my wife’s first time using a clutch. She has never driven any sort of manual vehicle and struggled for a few minutes on the quad but quickly got the hang of it. Is there a RF Miata Roadster in our future? I hope so.
The Tacoma did great off-road. The trails were muddy and I did use 4WD though I bet we would have been fine in 2wd. I never had any issues and would have liked to push it further, just didn’t have enough time.
Shortly before sunset we all loaded up and headed for the Rim. We were in for a treat and did some hiking/climbing. The views were great!

Before heading to bed it was time to cook up some carne asada in the cowboy skillet. No complaints here.
Until next time....

A “humid” desert? That seems to defy the definition of “desert”.

Indeed. It’s monsoon season here in the valley right now. Rained all night long.

Humid for the desert. Monsoon season brings weather that is humid for the desert, like 30-60% humidity, but not humid on an absolute scale.

Yeah, that level of humidity seems comfortable for us in the mid-Atlantic. It was 80%+ around here last week — I could’ve drank the moisture out of the air if I tried.

Yea, I’m from the Midwest but lived in Arizona for a couple years. It was funny listening to the people there complain about humidity when it got over 30% or so
